Gainsborough House, on the Dorset/Somerset border
Gainsborough House is an interdenominational Christian Retirement Centre in the village of Milborne Port (DT9 5BB) on the Dorset/Somerset border. There is a regular bus service to the famous Abbey town of Sherborne, with its two Castles and public school, just 2.5 miles away as well as to Yeovil, 9 miles away. The Retirement Centre is coordinated by a Trust which is registered with the Charity Commission.
There are eight purpose-built units, four are double, with a separate bedroom and sitting room, and four are single with a large bed-sitting room. The units are situated around a courtyard, each with its own front door and set in an attractive garden.
The village has a doctors' surgery, Post Office, pharmacy, newsagent, Milborne Port Computers, flower shop, several hairdressers, a Fish & Chip Restaurant, Library, small Co-op supermarket and a butcher. A Friday coffee morning, run by the active WI, takes place in the Town Hall. There is also a Petrol Station, Garage and Spar Shop.
The Parish Church of St John the Evangelist is lively and mission-oriented, as is the independent Community Church, which also runs a Coffee Shop. Roman Catholic worship takes place in the Parish Church. There is also a Milborne Port Primary School, The Queen's Head and The Tippling Philosopher public houses.
Gainsborough House is an ideal place for those wishing to retire in a beautiful Dorset village, for retired missionaries or for those on leave needing a base in the south of England. Contact us for more details, availability and fees.
